Research Area

In his research, Marjan Ivković focuses on problems of contemporary social theory and philosophy. The primary area of his interest is critical theory as an interdisciplinary approach that synthesizes social- and political-philosophical reflection with empirical social research. Marjan’s work centres around the analysis of the potential  of different varieties of contemporary critical theory (such as the perspectives of Axel Honneth, Nancy Fraser, Rahel Jaeggi or Rainer Forst) for conceptualizing and diagnosing complex forms of societal domination in the era of neoliberal revolution. The key challenge for contemporary critical theory that Marjan addresses is how to articulate a ‘post-metaphysical’ critique of domination, a critique that would overcome the epistemological authoritarianism and normative particularism of ‘substantive’ types of social critique without giving up the task of ‘diagnosing’ complex forms of social domination (e.g. in the sense of various neo-Marxist analysis of contemporary capitalism).
