Gazela Pudar Draško, Aleksandar Pavlović, Eltion Meka (eds.) Politics of Enmity

Is there a plausible explanatory framework for sovereignty, state power and ethnic tensions without a certain conceptual articulation of the politics of enmity? This book argues against any such framework, providing a convincing interpretation of enmity as a relational political background for understanding the contemporary nation-state in the era of globalized capitalism. Embedding itself in the Europe’s periphery, this volume offers a view of Central and Eastern European enmities, with a particular consideration of post-Yugoslav and specifically Serbian-Albanian ‘types of enmity’. Politics of Enmity is a necessary reading material for anyone who wishes to understand how hostility is politically produced and maintained in lieu of friendship.
