Painter, Deaf-Mute Figure / Edited and translated from Spanish by Miloš Ćipranić

This books looks into the nature of the relation between painting and deaf-mutness. In expression and communication, the painter and the deaf person do not primarily use words but nonverbal gestures. In Antiquity, the relation between painterly and deaf act has been established. Such a relation will be thematized in a long period of time, up until 20th century. Such a relation is not only metaphorical since testimonies bear witness to persons with auditory disabilities or mute people who have an important trace in the hsitory of art. Next to substantial prologue by Miloš Ćipranić, the book contains two essays – «Revival of Paintings» (1946) by José Ortega y Gasset and «The Mimic of Art» from 1998 by Ana María Leyra.
