Mrđan Mlađan: The Importance of Solidarity for the Success of Economic Transitions in Post-Conflict Societies

Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, 4th floor at 12h

This lecture explores the connection between economic justice and economic efficiency in post-conflict societies in transition. For this purpose, it compares Western Europe during the Marshall Plan and Eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Although the aid to Eastern Europe during its recent transition was comparable to that distributed during the Marshall Plan, the lack of solidarity between different social groups likely contributed to slower economic growth in the decades following it, and even more so in post-conflict societies.

Mrdjan Mladjan is a research associate of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory. He researches in the areas of economic and financial history, corporate finance, and philosophy of economics.
