Benjamin’s Critique of Violence: Contributions and Commentaries / Edited by Petar Bojanić

This book encompasses Walter Benjamin’s provocative and influential essay «Critique of Violence» (1921), as well as other texts that follow and illuminate many aspects of the text. Amongs them are texts by Petar Bojanić that open and close the book with Benjamin’s posthumously published texts significant for reconstruction of the idea of an essay, invisible to present day in its integral part, as well as texts «War» (1915/16) by Erich Unger and «Anti-Kain» (1919) by Kurt Hiller, the sources for Benjamin’s inspiration, to which he immediately refers to. The main theme of this extraordinarily complex text is a relation between law and violence (divine, revolutionary…), that is, the question if violence justifiable means to an end. The central essay is published in bilingual edition, with German in the original and its Serbian translation.
